Create an image node
Generate a raster image from a prompt and place it on the canvas.
How to generate an image
- Open the prompt input (in the editor or on the home dashboard).
- Select Create Image from the tool toolbar.
- Write a prompt describing what you want to generate.
- Optionally add a reference image by typing
@to mention a canvas layer or attaching an uploaded file. - Choose an image model from the model selector.
- Set model options such as aspect ratio, quality, and number of images.
- Click the send button to generate.
The generated image is placed on the canvas as an image node when ready. If you generate multiple images, they appear as separate nodes.
Common model options
Options vary by model, but most image models include:
- Aspect ratio — the width-to-height ratio of the output (e.g. 1:1, 16:9, 9:16).
- Number of images — how many results to generate in one request (typically 1–4).
- Quality / steps — higher quality or more steps takes longer but can produce finer detail.
- Style — some models expose a style preset selector.
See Model parameters for a full description of available options.
Using references
To generate an image that matches an existing style or content:
- Type
@in the prompt and select a canvas image layer to use it as a visual reference. - Attach an image file using the attachment button.
Not all models support image references. The reference option appears only when the selected model supports it.
After generating
Once the image is on the canvas you can:
- Replace the image to generate a new version with the same or a different prompt.
- Inpaint a region to edit part of the image using a brush and a follow-up prompt.
- Vectorize the image to convert it to an editable vector path.
- Download the image from the inline toolbar.
Tips
- Describe the subject and main visual elements first, then add style or mood.
- If results are inconsistent, try adding a reference image instead of describing style in words.
- Generate 2–4 variations in one request to pick the best result without additional credits.
- Use a 1:1 aspect ratio for thumbnails and icons, 16:9 for banners and slides, and 9:16 for mobile content.
