Scale tool
Proportionally resize layers — including strokes and effects — from a chosen anchor point.
What the Scale tool does
The Scale tool resizes selected layers while proportionally scaling their visual properties — including stroke widths, corner radii, and effects. This is different from dragging resize handles, which changes dimensions but leaves stroke widths and effects at their original pixel values.
Shortcut: Press K to activate the Scale tool.
Using the Scale tool
- Select one or more layers on the canvas.
- Press K or choose Scale from the toolbar.
- In the inspector, a Scale input field appears.
- Enter a target width or height, or type a percentage (e.g.,
200%to double the size). - Press Enter to apply.
The anchor point for scaling defaults to the center of the selection. To change the anchor point, click one of the nine positions in the anchor point grid in the inspector before entering the scale value.
Scale vs. resize
| Action | Scales stroke widths & effects? | Scales text size? |
|---|---|---|
| Drag handles | No | No |
| Scale tool | Yes | Yes (with option) |
Tips
- Use the Scale tool when resizing a group or component that has visible strokes — dragging handles would leave strokes at the wrong thickness.
- After scaling, verify that text sizes and corner radii look correct at the new size.
- Hold Shift while dragging on the canvas with the Scale tool active to constrain to the original aspect ratio.
