View-only mode
Understand what view-only mode is, what you can do in it, and how to request edit access.
What is view-only mode?
View-only mode is a read-only state in which you can explore and inspect a project but cannot make changes to it. It is activated when:
- Your account has View permission on the project (set by the project owner or a Manage-permission collaborator).
- You opened the project through a "anyone can view" link.
- The project is in a state that prevents editing (e.g., archived).
What you can do in view-only mode
| Action | Available? |
|---|---|
| Pan and zoom the canvas | Yes |
| View collaborator cursors | Yes (if enabled) |
| Edit layers | No |
| Add or delete layers | No |
| Use AI tools | No |
| Export from the inspector | No |
Identifying view-only mode
- The toolbar is hidden or shows only viewing tools.
- An indicator in the header shows "View only" or similar.
- Trying to click and edit a layer shows no response.
Requesting edit access
If you need to make changes but are in view-only mode:
- Contact the project owner or a collaborator with Manage permission.
- Ask them to update your permission to Edit via the Share dialog.
- Reload the project once they confirm the change.
Tips
- View-only mode is ideal for stakeholder reviews — they can inspect the design without risk of accidental changes.
- You can zoom to 400% in view-only mode to review design details closely.
