Remove background
Automatically separate the main subject from the image background using AI.
How it works
Remove Background uses AI to detect the foreground subject and erase the surrounding background. The result is a PNG image with a transparent background that you can place over any color or design.
Removing a background
- Select an image layer on the canvas.
- In the floating inline toolbar, click Remove BG (or open the image tools menu and choose Remove background).
- Lovision sends the image to the AI model. Wait a moment for the result.
- The processed image replaces the original layer with the background removed.
What makes a good source image
| Good | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Clear subject with distinct edges | Blurry or low-resolution images |
| High contrast between subject and background | Subject that blends into the background in color/tone |
| Single main subject | Very complex scenes with many overlapping elements |
Checking the result
After removal, zoom in on the edges of the subject to verify the cutout. If edges look rough or parts of the subject were removed:
- Crop the original image to focus on the subject, then re-run remove background.
- Use the Inpaint tool to touch up specific edge areas.
Tips
- Crop to the subject area first if the image has a lot of empty space — a tighter crop gives the model more context.
- The original image is kept in your history — undo with ⌘Z if you prefer to keep the original.
- Transparent areas export as PNG; if you export to JPEG, transparent areas will be filled white.
