Vectorize images
Convert a raster image into editable vector paths using AI tracing.
What vectorizing does
Vectorizing converts a raster image (pixels) into vector paths (shapes). The resulting vector layer is resolution-independent — you can scale it to any size without quality loss — and the paths are fully editable in vector edit mode.
Vectorizing an image
- Select an image layer on the canvas.
- In the floating inline toolbar, open the image tools menu.
- Choose Vectorize.
- Select a vectorization mode:
| Mode | Best for |
|---|---|
| Trace | Logos, icons, and simple flat illustrations |
| Line art | Sketches, drawings, and outlines |
| Clean | Photos or complex images where you want simplified shapes |
- Click Run. The result is placed on the canvas as a new vector layer.
After vectorizing
- The original image layer is preserved below the new vector layer.
- Enter vector edit mode (double-click the vector layer) to adjust individual anchor points and paths.
- Delete the original image once you are satisfied with the vector result.
Tips
- Images with fewer colors and clean edges produce the best vector results. Highly detailed photos rarely vectorize well.
- If the trace produces too many small paths, try the Clean mode or simplify your source image first.
- Use Simplify vector after tracing to reduce path complexity without losing the overall shape.
