Select and move layers
Select, move, and resize layers on the canvas or from the layers panel.
Selecting layers
Press V to activate the Select tool.
- Click a layer on the canvas to select it.
- Click an empty area to deselect.
- Click and drag on an empty area to draw a selection rectangle and select all layers it touches.
- Hold ⇧ (Shift) and click to add or remove a layer from the current selection.
- Click a layer in the layers panel to select it, even if it is behind other layers on the canvas.
- Double-click a group or frame to enter it and select a child layer.
Moving layers
With one or more layers selected:
- Drag the selection to move it freely.
- Press Arrow keys to nudge by 1px (hold ⇧ to nudge by the large nudge amount — default 10px).
- Type exact X and Y values in the position fields in the right inspector.
- Hold ⌥ (Option / Alt) while dragging to move a copy instead of the original.
Resizing layers
- Drag the corner or edge handles that appear around a selected layer.
- Hold ⇧ while dragging a corner handle to resize proportionally.
- Type exact W (width) and H (height) values in the inspector.
- Click the lock icon between W and H in the inspector to constrain the aspect ratio while typing.
Selecting overlapping layers
When layers overlap, click once to select the top layer. Then:
- Click again on the same spot to select the next layer below (cycles through the stack).
- Use the layers panel to click any layer directly regardless of stack order.
Tips
- Use ⌘A (Mac) or Ctrl+A (Windows) to select all layers on the canvas.
- Use Esc to deselect or to exit a group/frame and select its parent.
- The right inspector shows position and size for the selection — editing these values is more precise than dragging.
