Pan, zoom, and fit view

Move around the canvas and change the zoom level.

Pan

Pan moves the visible area of the canvas without changing anything on it.

  • Click and drag with the Hand tool (H).
  • Hold Space while any tool is active to temporarily switch to the Hand tool, then drag.
  • Two-finger scroll on a trackpad to pan in any direction.
  • Middle-click drag with a mouse.

Zoom

Zoom changes the scale at which the canvas is rendered.

  • Pinch on a trackpad to zoom in or out.
  • Scroll while holding (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) to zoom centered on the cursor position.
  • Use the zoom buttons in the bottom-right viewport controls to zoom in (⌘+) or out (⌘−).
  • Open the zoom dropdown in the viewport controls to choose a preset zoom level or fit action.

Tips

  • Zoom to 100% before checking pixel-precise spacing or font rendering.
  • Use Fit all (⇧1) whenever you feel disoriented on a large canvas.
  • Holding Space to pan is faster than switching tools when you only need to scroll briefly.
  • The zoom level is shown in the viewport controls and updates live as you pinch or scroll.
