Reference canvas selection
Pass supported canvas image layers as visual references to an AI generation task.
What canvas references do
Canvas selections are shown near the prompt input so you can choose which image layers to reference. A selected layer is not sent automatically; add the image reference from the strip or with an @ mention before generating.
How canvas references are passed
- Select an image layer on the canvas.
- Open the prompt input — eligible image selections appear near the prompt field.
- Add the reference from the strip or with an
@mention. - Write your prompt that uses those references. For example:
- "Generate a similar image in the same style"
- "Create a vector version of the selected icon"
- "Edit this image to add a sunset background"
- Generate.
Common use cases
| Use case | What to select | What to prompt |
|---|---|---|
| Style matching | An existing image that has the style you want | "Generate a product photo in the same style" |
| Image editing | The image you want to edit | "Replace the background with a city skyline" |
| Vector conversion | An image layer | "Convert this to vector line art" |
Tips
- Add only the image references that matter. Extra references can dilute the prompt.
- The canvas selection and reference strip help you find eligible image layers.
- Removing a reference from the prompt does not delete the layer from the canvas.
