Add files and references
Attach supported images to an AI prompt to guide generation.
What files can be attached
You can attach images to the prompt to give the AI visual context:
| File type | Common uses |
|---|---|
| Images (JPG, PNG, WEBP) | Style references, subject references, inpainting source |
Non-image files may appear in the file picker, but they are not currently uploaded into generation tasks.
Attaching a file
- Open the prompt input.
- Click the paperclip icon or Add files button.
- Select one or more files from your file picker.
- Wait for the upload progress to complete.
- Write your prompt that references or uses the attached content.
- Click Generate.
You can attach multiple image files. Each image appears as a thumbnail in the reference strip below the prompt field.
Using canvas layers as references
Instead of uploading a new file, you can reference image layers already on the canvas:
- Select the image layer you want to use as a reference.
- Open the prompt input and add the image from the reference strip or an
@mention. - Write your prompt and generate.
See Reference canvas selection for details.
Removing a reference
Click the × on a file thumbnail in the reference strip to remove it from the current prompt. The file is not deleted from your computer.
Tips
- Attach only the files that are directly relevant to the task. Too many attachments can dilute the AI's attention and produce less focused results.
- Use high-quality, clear images as visual references — blurry or low-resolution references produce lower-quality output.
- Large image files take longer to upload — reduce resolution or compress before attaching if speed matters.
