Nudge amount
Configure how far layers move per keypress when nudging with arrow keys.
What nudge amount is
When you press an arrow key with a layer selected, the layer moves by the small nudge amount. When you hold Shift and press an arrow key, it moves by the big nudge amount. Nudge amount settings let you customize both of these distances.
| Key | Movement |
|---|---|
| Arrow key | Small nudge (default: 1 px) |
| Shift + Arrow key | Big nudge (default: 10 px) |
Changing nudge amounts
- Open the main menu (the Lovision logo or menu icon in the top-left).
- Go to Preferences or Editor Preferences.
- Find the Nudge amount section.
- Set the Small nudge value (in pixels).
- Set the Big nudge value (in pixels).
Changes apply immediately. There is no need to restart the editor.
Recommended values
| Context | Small nudge | Big nudge |
|---|---|---|
| Pixel-precise UI design | 1 px | 8 px or 10 px |
| Grid-based design (8px grid) | 1 px | 8 px |
| Larger layout work | 2 px | 20 px |
Set big nudge to match your spacing system — for an 8-point grid, a big nudge of 8 px means each Shift+Arrow move snaps to the next grid unit.
Tips
- Set big nudge to match your project's base spacing unit. If you use an 8pt grid, set big nudge to 8 px.
- For icon design or dense UI work, keep small nudge at 1 px for precise control.
- In team settings, agreeing on nudge amounts ensures everyone is working at the same precision level.
